Himalayan Institute Neti Pot Starter Kit Review
(1) This is a great starter kit.
First, a quick analytical review:
Pharmaceutical grade salt includes a tiny spoon for measurement. Using the pot twice daily, two rinses each nostril for about a month has depleted a bit over half of the salt in my container. The herbal tincture is an added bonus.
The pot itself is a tad awkward in that when full the shallow, wide design can lead to dumping water out the top rather than the spout. The solution is to wait for the sinus chamber to fill with water and start draining before tilting your head and the pot further. I mix a solution of lukewarm water in a separate graduated container and transfer it to the neti pot. Though I worried I would break the ceramic pot almost immediately, I don’t like the idea of putting warm, plasticy water up my nose, so I went with ceramic and I still haven’t managed even to chip it.
Now, the part that really matters:
This thing works. I suffer from what my doctor describes as “chronic sinusitis with acute allergic rhinitis”. She’s prescribed Astelin, Flonase, Clarinex, etc. None of these were effective and some of them led to nosebleeds, extreme sore spots and a virtual rainbow of ineffable nasal jetsam. These medications contain some pretty powerful drugs that I’d rather not be shooting into deep cavities in my head which, I assume, are pretty darn close to where I keep my brain. How about… lukewarm salt water? Nice.
When I’ve just used my neti pot I’m amazed at how clear my sinuses are and how acute my sense of smell can be. I breathe deeper and feel better. The cleaning process is not attractive but it is terribly effective. If you suffer from sinus headaches, uncontrollable sneezing fits, suffer from congestion, sinusitis, rhinitis etc., you owe it to yourself to try this product or one like it.
(2) I purchased this product thru Amazon Prime and received it next day. I was 5 days into a cold and had heard about using the Neti pot to help the healing process. After it arrived, I used the Neti Pot in the morning and evening and I experienced relief in my nasal passages. This kit comes with the salts and a special tincture, that has zinc and some other healing herbs in it. I did experience immediate relief as well as a shorten duration of my cold. There is a small learning curve the first time using, but after that I used it with ease. (It comes with directions). It is like getting water up your nose when swimming in the ocean, a little uncomfortable, but that goes away quickly and then it feels good.
